NOTICES TO CUT HEDGES

(To the Editor) Sir,—Notices to cut hedges have been served on residents between Russell street and the Lime Kiln which seems superfluous as there are practically no hedges to cut in this particular locality. The footpath here very badly needs widening—an urgent work neglected for m.'inv years'hv our City Council. If it wants to embark on the hedge-cutting industry it will find plenty to cut in the various valleys and in other parts of the city, and whilst on the job it might remove dense and dangerous growths causing obstructions at various street corners and obscuring the traffic and thus leading to possibly serious accidents.—l am. etc., WIIARFIE. Nelson, 18th December.
