PRINTERS’ STRIKE
NO CHANGE AT WELLINGTON PAPERS BEING PUBLISHED (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, 19th March. The position regarding the printers’ strike in Wellington is unchanged. No reports have been received indicating any cessation of work in other cities or towns. The employers sent a letter to the union expressing regret that the offer of a 5 per cent, increase and other concession had been rejected and had been followed by a strike. The “Evening Post” to-day consisted of six pages, containing cables, telegrams and local news. The union held a meeting to-dav and adjourned until to-morrow. The newspaper offices are being picketed. WELLINGTON, This Day. To-day’s “Dominion” was enlarged to 10 pages, again including a full page of pictures. The principal pages, six and seven, contain one column of advertisements and fifteen columns of editorial and news matter, including fourteen columns in double column line blocks. All the regular features of the newspaper are included. POSITION UNCHANGED WELLINGTON, This Day. The position in the printing dispute is unchanged. NAPIER UNION DRASTIC ACTION OBJECTED TO NAPIER, This Day. .Members of the Typographical Union met this morning to consider the demand from Wellington to strike. The following resolution was carried and the men resumed work: “That this Napier branch of the Wellington Printing and Related Trades Union objects to the drastic action of the Wellington branch, and states that more peaceful methods are advisable in settlement of any dispute.”
