Mi- N. F. Armstrong, who has left Blenheim to take up an appointment in the Magistrate’s Court at Te Kuiti, was farewelled by the Blenheim Magistrate’s Court staff and the local police. In making a presentation of two suit eases to Mr Armstrong, Mr A. F. Bent, the Clerk of the Court, referred in appreciatative terms to the recipient’s courtesy, efficiency, and general ability; and expressed regret .at his departure from Blenheim. Mr Bent’s remarks were supported by Mr A. W. McDonald (deputy-clerk of the Court), Mr J; H. Momson (Court bailiff), Sergeant J. SmytliG (on behalf of the police), and R. C. Dobson, who all joined in wishing Mr Armstrong well for the future.

At the commencement of the Waimea Electric Power Board meeting today the chairman, Mr Herbert Everett, made reference to the loss which the district had suffered in the recent passing of Mr R. Ellis, a pioneer in electric matters. On the motion of Mr Everett it was reselved that a letter of sympathy be sent to the late Mr Ellis’s son and daughter. The Mayor of Motueka (Mr R. J. L. York) left for Nelson late last evening en route to Christchurch, where he will attend the annual conference of the Municipal Association of New Zealand.

The funeral of the late Mr James Cook, which took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Riwaka Cemetery, was largely attended, there being sixty cars in the cortege. The Rev. A. M. Ferguson, Tasman, conducted the service at the late Mr Cook’s residence and also at the graveside and Mr Horatio Everett read the Oddfellows’ exhortation. Among the large crowd paying their last respects to the late Mr Cook were several representatives of the Oddfellows’ Lodge, the Farmers’ Union and the Riwaka Cricket- Club. Messrs D. E. Fry, G. Pearless, R. Y. Drummond, F. G. Drummond, W. Goodall and J. Inglis were the bearers. The many beautiful wreaths, placed on the grave testified to the great regard and esteem in which the late Mr Cook was held by all residents of Riwaka and of the surrounding districts.

The Mayor of Nelson (Mr W. J. Moffatt) and Town Clerk (Mr F. Mitchell) proceeded to Wellington by last night’s boat to interview the Prime Minister in connection with City Council business. Both will go from Wellington to Christchurch to attend the annual conferences of the Municipal Association and Town Clerks’ Association.

Mr A. R. Kingsl'ord has announced his nomination as a candidate for a seat on the Nelson Harbour Board.

Mr A. E. Stark, of Dunedin, is at present spending a vacation in Nelson.

Mr K. Hickson is at present making a short visit to Nelson following a business trip to Japan.
