ON THE RANGE

NELSON WINS MILROY SHIELD 20 POINTS MARGIN AGAINST MARLBOROUGH H. FRANK WINS BARKER CUP 'l’he Nelson Rifle Association team defeated Marlborough by 20 points in the Milroy Shield competition fired oil the Vernon range (Blenheim) on Saturday. The weather was fine, but a south-easterly wind—the only “hard” wind on the Vernon range —was blow-' ing. As a result both teams had trouble with windage adjustments and the scores in the match were smaller than usual. At 300 yards Nelson scored 305 and Marlborough 290, but at 500 yards Marlborough beat the visitors by 1— 310 against 309. The Nelson team shot more consistently at 000 and won at that range by 304 points to 292. A Barker (formerly of Boiiga), an old Marlborough rifleman wlm lias now left the district, recently donated a cup for the highest scorer in the annual'Milroy Shield shoot. This was won by H. Frank (Nelson) with a total of 98—31 at 300; 32 at 500; and 35 at 000 yards. H. Frank’s possible at 000 yards was the-only possible during the day. ’The Marlborough Association entertained the visitors at luncheon and tea on the range and the competition produced a very pleasant day’s shooting.
