r _ TIMARU, This Day. Tile New Zealand championship band contest opened this morning. Weather conditions were excellent with every promise of continuing. Large numbers of visitors are in town, and great interest is displayed in competitions. Results:— Euphonium solo: A. Ramsay (Q.A.0.), 93pts., 1; J. Smith (Nelson Garrison) 92, 2 ; J. Mackay (Invercargill Civic) 88, 3.
