PIANO AS WEDDING GIFT
DUKE OF KENT’S CHOICE Under the presidency of Lord Luke of Faversham, the Committee of “Georges” of Great Britain subscribed toward a personal gift to the Duke of Kent on the occasion of his marriage to Princess Marina. On being asked to indicate the form that the presentation should take, the Duke and Duchess both requested a full concert grand piano, as it is their intention to give musical “at homes” when they return to London. Society will pot be long in following the example, and musical parties, which, to the younger members of the present generation are something of a novelty, will soon become the prevailing fashion. This welcome action on the part of members of the Royal Family will give a tremendous fillip to musical appreciation generally, states the “Music Traders’ Review.” “It is just what we have been waiting for. We ourselves are quite confident of greatly beneficial results and we hereby tender thanks on behalf of music to tile Duke and Duchess for their helpful gesture. Their choice of a piano is indicative of the growing demand for pianos all over the country,” it continues. “Every piano-making factory in London is working overtime. Every factory is looking for more workmen.”
