DUKE OFF DUTY

UNOFFICIAL PROGRAMME AT WEEK-END Saturday evening and Sunday were free on the Duke of Gloucester’s official programme, but during that time he made a number of appearances in the City. On Saturday evening after returning from the children’s reception His Royal Highness at G. 15 p.m. visited the Nelson Club where he remained for an hour. There was a good number of club members in the building at the time and the Duke mixed freely with them and chatted with many. Returning to the Commercial Hotel for dinner, at 9.15 p.m. the Duke left for the ex-servicemen’s reunion, where he remained for over an hour. On Sunday morning His Royal Highness attended church at the Nelspn Cathedral, after which he made two private calls. In the afternoon lie rested until about 5.30 p.m. when he proceeded to Tahuna Beach for a swim. In the evening the Royal visitor went for a walk, taking his two shaggy little Australian terriers with him.
