26 GREENS OCCUPIED AT AUCKLAND FIRST ROUND OF SINGLES (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND. This Day. The twenty-second Dominion championship bowling tourney opened this morning in perfect weather. I here is an unprecedented number of 756 entries and in the singles contest which began this morning there are 314 players distributed over 26 greens in the city and suburbs. Every player to-day will play five games —two before lunch and three after. The winners and ties in each section will qualify to continue to-moi-row on tlie two-life system. It is hoped to play five rounds to-morrow, but play in this contest will then be adjourned to Wednesday week. The following former champions are competing to-day; M. Walker, C. Ingram (Wellington), W. Foster (Caledonian), J. Brackeriridge (Newtown), J. Rigby (North East Valley), J. Best (Timaru), H. C. Clarke (Auckland), and W-.'.Carswell (Taieri), who won last year. The tournament was officially opened at Carlton Club, which is the headquarters, by the President of the New Zealand Bowling Council, Mr Raymond Sheath, and by his deputy at every other club.
