MAORI CONCERT
ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCE AT SCHOOL OF MUSIC
The Maori Male Voice Choir gave a most enjoyable concert in the School of Music last evening when a large audience greeted the various items with enthusiasm. Part songs, harmonies, comedies, Waiatas and appropriate music combined in malting' «iu attractive programme. The touring party is organised by the Rev. A. J.' Seamer, and the proceeds of their concerts are in aid of the Methodist Home and Maori Mission Fund. The concert opened with karangas (calls), waiatas, the chanting of Psalm 95, followed by a Maori hymn —Toku Wairua, a popular hymn among the younger Maori people. Then followed the following items:— Solo, “E Pari Ra,” Riki Karaka and party (with actions); concerted item, “Simple Simon,” party; solo, “Old Man River, ’ Tnia Tewiata; hand imitation, party; steel guitar solo,, Ako Pihama; concerted item, “In Absence,” party; trio, “Hinemoa,” Hohepa Tutawhiro, riki araka, Ako Pihama; solo, “Blow Thou Winter Winds,” Mr Nevehana; modern Poi Dance, The Boys; Haka; “Rosary” (concerted), party; musical items, stick games, Ancient Mate Mate, etc., commonly known as Maoris at Home; solo, Yodelling Song, Ako Pihama ; demonstration Long Poi Dance, .Riki Karaka; Maori song, 1 ‘Ka Maringi,” party; closing item, -a very ancient haka known at the “Taiha” liaka, which is now seldom done among the Maori people. The members of the party were as follows: Rev. Rakena (North Auckland), Riki Kavaka (Auckland), Ako Pihama (Waikato), Tnia Tewiata (Mahawatu), Rangi Ngapaki (Marlborough), Ripene Matoe (Taranaki), Hohcpo Tutawhero (Southland),- Watcne Nerehana (Aotearoa).
