WOOD CANDIDATE THE WINNER At a late hour last night the final result of the Y.M.C.A. Queen Carnival was announced, the Wood Queen (Miss Paltersou) being declared the winner. The four Queens in turn appeared on the platform at the Drill Hall, and representatives of their committees thanked supporters for their generous help. 'Cheers were called for each of the Queens, and were enthusiastically given. The organiser (Mr F. Jones) finally thanked all those who had worked so hard for the Queens, and congratulated them on their great achievement, in spito of the hard times. The carnival was going to be a huge success, he said, and would be a real help and benefit to the funds for carrying on the work of tlio Y.M.C.A, in Nelson. CROWNING CEREMONY TO NIGHT SPECTACULAR OUTDOOR PROGRAMME The final programme of the carnival commences at 7.30 o’clock to-night with a big torchlight procession, leaving the Drill Ilall and proceeding to the circus area at the back of Coney Park. Ihe procession will include the Queens, bands, circus, menagerie, old time vehicles, effigies, fancy costumes, etc. At the grounds a spectacular crowning ceremony will bo held to the accompaniment of the bands. Other big attractions on the programme will.be a huge bonfire on which effigies will be burned, a water pyrotechnic display by the Fire Brigade, concluding with a magnificent fireworks display.
