MOTUEKA

HARBOUR BOARD * At the monthly meeting of the Motueka Harbour Board the following members were present:—Messrs H. Everett (chairman), F. C. Batchelor, A. E. Edwards, D. Haining and C. L. Harvey. On the motion of the chairman, a vote of sympathy was passed to Mr C. H. Mackay, a member of the board, on the death of his father, the late Dr. \V. ~J. Mackay of Nelson. The motion was passed" in silence, all members standing. Accounts amounting to £l4B 18s id were passed for payment,; Bank credits, after payments, were shown at current account £1092 Os 3d, fixed deposit £1734 9s 4d, total £2826 9s 7d* In the matter of the wharf reinstatement and extension loan of £6,000 raised in the year 1922, which expires this year £3,000 in June and £3OOO in November, it- was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Edwards and Harvey, that the first £3OOO be paid off upon maturity, and that' arrangements be made, if necessary, for renewal of the second £3OOO for a further period. It Was stated that the £3OOO would be made up of £llOO from the sinking fund account in the hands of the Public Trustee and £I9OO from cash at the Bank of New Zealand. , A letter was received from Messrs Easton, Nicholson and Lewis, 'the board’s solicitors, notifying that notice had been served upon the occupier of Lot No. 13, stating that the board has now entered into occupancy of the property and that the board is now free to lease the land, if so desired. A communication was received from the secretary of the Treasury, in reply, giving detailed information re procedure of approaching the Local Government Loans Board in the matter of wharf reinstatement and extension loan. Two quotations for the supply of tarpaulin were received. That of 7 Mr W. A. Coppins was accepted. It was reported that a person, who had received permission to cut down and ciear away three or four small pine trees, which had died in the plantation, had exceeded the limit granted to him by removing a number of green trees also. The secretary was directed to forward an account of £1 for trees removed in excess; and upon failure of prompt settlement to prosecute for payment. It was resolved (the chairman and Mr Harvey) that the secretary interview the Safe Bathing Society re the matter of procedure in granting camping site arid to report to- the Plantation Committee, who shall' "have power to act. | The secretary reported an apparent anomaly in the matter of accident indemnity existing in the insurance policy with the State Office, which, while the condi tion would he quite applicable to most harbour boards, should not be enforced here. The secretary stated that the matter of expunging the condition from the policy was now under consideration by the State Insurance Office.
