DULL DESPAIR

BRITISH HONDURAS DISASTER NEARLY 1000 DEATHS ■ (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 3rd October. Telegraphing from Belize the officer administering the Government of British Honduras says that dull despair has settled on the population, who are appalled by the magnitude of the disaster which has befallen them. The arrival of lorries has.speeded up the clearing of the town, and temporary shelters are arising from the ruins; but over 2370 families are now dependent on the Government for supplies of food and clothing. Heavy losses of property and material caused by the hurricane, coupled with the depressed state of the market, appears likely to have the most serious effects upon the colonies. Deaths to the number of 622 have already been registered, and a revised estimate of the total deaths is between 800 and 1000.
