PLUNKET SHIELD

WELLINGTON V. OTAGO

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

DUNEDIN, This Day

The Plunket Shield match between Otago and Wellington commenced at Carisbrook Park this morning in dull but fine weather. The wicket was easy and improving as the day progressed. The outfield was slow.

Wellington won the toss and batted. Baker and Foley opened, the former taking strike to Dunning. Baker hit the third ball to the leg boundary and was neatly caught off the next ball by Knight in the slips. 4—l—4. Hollings was the new batsman. Runs came slowly, Dunning and Elms bowling steadily and giving the batsmen few opportunities. The fielding was keen. When the total was 25 Lemin replaced Dunning. Lemin, making his first appearance in Shield cricket, sent down very accurate balls. Alloo then replaced Elmes.

An hour's play produced 40 runs, Hollings being 26 and Foley 4.
