SEASON'S FIRST SENIOR MATCHES

"PA&T V- JPRBSEgJV AT m& p - ■• ' COLLEQiE • I The first senior games of the season were played on Saturday, when the annual match between Old Boys and the Present Boys was played and Wakatu visited Upper Moutere. The annual game at the College was instituted" just 21 years ago when the Old Boys' Club first came into existence, and was the first match played by that Club and also the first on the new College ground. Only five of the 22 players who took part in that match still reside in Nelson and only one took part in the latest encounter. The eleven Old Boys of the 1908 game are now scattered among eight different towns in New Zealand. Saturday's game was a most enjoyable one and much of the form shown, I considering that the town players had had no practice was remarkably good. During the afternoon the Principal (Mr C. H. Broad) as usual provided a very acceptable afternoon tea, which was greatly appreciated. Old Boys, winning the toss, batted on an .excellent wicket, but did not open very impressively. The later wickets

improved the pceition, but the last three felf for 13 runs. Harris, Hooper and / Bisley took the field for Old Boys for the'first time foi- over ten'years. S. Newman, Dalglish, Blincoe, and Betts all showed excellent form. College opened brightly' having 30 up before a wicket fell. With 100 up and only four wickets down' they lotsked like heading their opponents, but the last six wickets fell for 13 runs. Harris, Hooper and Newman all showed bright batting. J. Newman, off 11 overs secured six for 31. Messrs ;Pdy and 'iEt&hdff "umpired. Following are the scores: " OLD BOYS i (First Innings)" Neale, b Fay 50 Fowler, lbw Newman 0 J.
