DA NCI- LAST NIGHT TROPHIES PRESENTED AND MR OLDER,SKAW l-’AREAVELLEI) Tiie Nelson. Ladies’ Swimming Chib held (in enjoyable end of season dance in tin: I'oreslcrs’ Hull last night. The Mayor and Mayoress (Air ami Mrs W. •). Mol'/atl) were in attendance and half way through the evening the Mayor presented the clips and trophies won. during the season. An opportunity was also talien to, farewell Air N. A. Oldersliaw, secretary of the Nelson Swimming Club and secretary of the Nelson Swimming Centre. Mr Oldcrshaw who is in the Post and Telegraph Department has been promoted and transferred to the Jlul't, Wellington. The swimmers who figured in the presentation were as follows:

Senior championship: Al. Nightingale, runner up N. Russell. (Cun presented by Club). -Junior championship: ]). Shallerass. (Cnp presented hy Aliss E. Stewart). President’s cup, presented by Airs Rldlivant for championship relay: D. Shallerass, AT. Nightingale, ,T. Bullivant. ,T. Boyce. Relay—first carnival (first time Nelson beat Blenheim in ladies’ relay): AL Emms, AT. Nightingale, N. Ryder, AT. Vcreoo.

Prizes won during the year were also presented.

At the conclusion of the presentation the Mayor referred to the approaching departure of ATr Oldcrshaw to whom ho referred as one of Nelson’s most useful citizens, lie would be generally missed butby no one more than those interested in swimming.

The ATayor referred to the .Municipal Paths ami to the criticism before their erection that they would not pay. “No one expected them to pay,” said the Mayor, but if Air Oldcrshaw remained in Nelson, there would Tie a hotter chance of making them pay than was now the case. Air Alex Allan on behhlf of the Swimming Club committee, said it was a sad day for the club when they were losing Air Oldershaw and there was no one iho speaker knew who could fill his place. Fully eighty per cent of the club's success in the past season was due to ATr Oldcrshaw. ATr Allen asked him In accept a silver pencil as a token of (he club's esteem.

ATr Oldershaw thanked (he speakers for what they had said and hoped he would return to Nelson soon and once more take up the reins of swimming here, Uo hoped Hie club and swimming generally in Nelson would meet with the best success.

Cheers were given for Air Oldershaw and all nresenl sang “Per he's a Jolly Good Fellow.”
