The serum was found to be effective as a preventive." lie added that lockjaw was fairly common in Auckland, the microbe being present in the volcanic Soil. The. '"Herald," in the course of an editorial, stales Dr. Maguire's reference to serum as a preventive, "that there is a hint of special value to he taken to heart wherever there exist conditions increasing the risk of this trouble. The implied warning ought not to be regarded as that of an alarmist, but as one of commonsense urgency. Forewarned is forearmed."
