MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE •MATTERS OF FARMING INTEREST Month by month, the General Committee of tlic Nelson A. and P. Association meets at- Richmond to prepare for the annual show in November. Recently the schedule has been overhauled, by a number of special committees which this year have introduced vations. WELT, ATTENDED MEETINGS The monthly meetings are probably the best attended committee meetings in the district. Members come, in somo instances, considerable distances. The office of President is a rolling one and the Association has been fortunate- in the men placed at the head of its affairs. This gives added interest to the monthly meetings and probably accounts in no small measure for the uniformly large attendances. The President year is Mi- Geo. Manson and it will "probably be found that a leading characteristic of his term of office wijl be the definite, outspoken lead given. At this month's meeting at Richmond on Saturday evening there were present: Messrs Geo. Manson (President), in the cliah-, A. Thomson, J. Hunt, A. E. Max, G. W. Best, J. Biggar, James Chi.ng, A. Gibbs, C. H. Darkness, J. W. Hagen, J,. Ingram, C. H. Ching, F.. Lusty, F. C. Page, H. F. Palmer, E. W. Win and E. Sihallbone. Apologies for absence wtere received from Messrs T. B. Chisnall and D. Max. NEW MEMBERS ' >l The folio wing hew members were elect; ed: Messrs W. Blaek v and W.- Richards' (Nelson) and J. W. Barnes (WakapuaKa). : SHEEP RETURNS The Canterbury A. and P. Association sought the co-operation of Nelson in an endeavour to secure a change in the date of taking the Annual sheep returns. The letter stated: The date at present is 30th.. April and this is some weeks before,.the close of the freezing season. The effect of. "this is that ofteu the returns are unduly inflated due to heavy slaughtering in tire latter -part of the season. Particularly, is this so in the South Island this year, where the season was unusually prolonged." The Canterbury .committee suggested the dates should be altered to 30th June. * i ' . The. chairman said ho. heartily supported the suggestion made. Was decided to support the alteration. '.„:...■ MOTOR. EVENTS .Mr: J. G. Ingram suggested several additions io the motoring events. In doing so ho pointed but that additional time would bo taken up and it.- s was fdr thp meeting to bear this point .iir-:mind. It was decided to include the additional events and to retain the motor cycle races also. The latter events produced some discussion and four members - strongly resisted rthe races. The majority of members,, however, welcom ed the races. 1 ~. Appreciation bf the assistance given by the Motor Cycle Club in arranging the races was expressed. WOMEN'S bivisjoN On behalf of. the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union,, Mr F. C. Page asked that be given fo:* a stall on Show Day. He said the id'ea. was to sell heedleWork and other articles to raise funds ;for the work. He had informed the ladies that .caro i wouldha : ye to be exercised by the Association, in regard to any competition with privileges which the Association usually sold. The chairman'' said that provided nothing unfair was done those who bought privileges, the Association would help the Women's Division as much as possible. It was decided to ask the ladies to submit a list of goods proposed to be sold. . . . Reference was made to the good work of the Division in other parts where, among other things, special relief for overworked mothers had been organised. "FILL THE GAP" Hearty support of "Fill the Gap'" deputation to the Government' was given and it was decided that the President and Secretary representee Association. The chairman said this . was hot a branch line. It was a main trunk line and shonW be completed. WASHBOURN MEMORIAL GATES The Association decided to find its portion. of the cost of the Washbourh Memorial Gates. This meant that the memorial committee had sufficient money in hand to proceed forthwith with the works. • - • ~. v Plans of the gates were,handed round and they were considered to be very satisfactory. . . • ~. The President, vice-president and Mr E. Smallbone were appointed a sub-com-mittee to interview business people regarding the donation of special prizes.
