HOSPITAL BOARD MATTERS
(To the Editor)
Sir; —It seems rather a pity that so jumh misunderstanding should have arf/Teli otf® liiatM's to do with the new Hospital. b'iii-ely the easiest way would fiiiv'o bebi to have expLaiftrid by giving ii direct answer about the crockery question by publishing the exact cost; and in the' matter of the gardening, if thfc ’ Board made it understood that in the future all supplies and work would be tendered for bv open contract, the lowest tender to be accepted guaranteed by suitable .security, this understanding would go a long way towards ending the present mixmp. Then the Board would only be..guaranteeing what is really the best business method for all public bodies. Also if a statement was prepared each month, of yearly, showing receipts and expenditure of the Hospital, ratepayers would then have a chance to understand the financial position and cost of running the institution. What • Is tlbhb canriot be undone but it certain- , ly is a. slur on Nelson landscape garden- ; i'rs if tlity are prepared to acknowledge their incapability of laying out. the area in question: Have .they ever been approached on the subject? Also if the Board, had dealt direct with the manufacturers for the. crockery needed then ihfeffe would have been little to complain about, but failing that, probably the cheapest course, fenders should have b'beri .called which were open to all, in- !. stead of letting the contract privately 1 to alWellirigton firm.—l am etc., ■ ■ ; J. ANGLESEY. YLlanherrie,” Tadmor, . i jnrie,- 12th. 1926. • .
