LONDON, June 13.
The Daily Mail, referring to sales of Australian and New' Zealand. apples, says: “Although the Australian ami New Zealand fruit season is now at if* height greedy retailers tire making profits of 80. to 150 per "cent! Thousands of cases arrived in London last week and sold wholesale at 6/- to 10/. for a 401 b. case, the same apples are costing housewives 6d to 10d‘ per pound. A leading agent declared that though these apples are cheaper than ever the public are not benefiting. There is a real chance for a fine fillip for Empire trade, but the retailers prefer big profits and a small, turnover rather Ilian a fair profit on large? sales,■•‘thereby destroying a golden opportunity.” New Zealand apples sold —Stumers and Cleopatras 11/-, 13/-; others 10/-, 12/-; a few Cox’s 20/-. • • •Pears: Trays,Winter Nelis, 7/-; Winter Cole, T/6 to 5/-.
