GIRL GUIDES
On Friday, June* ]], the company committee of tin* Port Girl (Jniilns cave an entertainment followed l>y a dance to raise funds for the company. The programme wliich was an excellent one included several delightful items from Mrs Hush's quartette, a much appreciated solo from Miss Louisson on the violin and a number of songs charmingly sung by Mrs Harley.
•The programme was augumented by two folk songs and a country dance from the Guides to demonstrate what they had learnt recently.
The Provincial Commissioner, Mrs Moncriefl', who was present, explained the financing of the Guide movement, pointing out that headquarters Auckland was supported by a contribution from each province,' wliich in their turn derived their funds from the collection of n/- from yearly associates. Jn the companies the girls gave 2d. a week towards paving for their badges and were encouraged in'every way to lie thrifty. Additional expenses, however, were liable to occur as for instance when a poor girl entered the company and had not the wercwithail to pay for her uniform which was presented to Dec, out of company funds. These expenses line! to be met, hence ihe reason of the entertainment which was the company committee’s way of raising company funds. The Comissiolier, however, pointed out that the committees are hv no means hound to finance their company, because the girls must lie made to realise that they have to pay for all their own camping and fun. The committees could make it easier for the Guider to raise money ly giving what help they felt they could and working witli the Guides to get things up for the purpose.
