Professor Alfred Marshall, the famous economist. who died recently, took a somewhat perverse delight in, differing from almost, everybody upon some subtle consideration which had occurred to himself alone. He had his table knives electroplated' to spare the labour of polishing, but they ceased to cut. He devised a form of boot with elastic webbing over the instep to save the labour of fastening, but found the rain penetrated to his feet. He made the plana for his house so as to provide each room with sunshine, but omitted to include stairs in the plan.
