CITY OF NELSON DESTRUCTION OF BIRDS. CAVVTHRON PARK

TT having boon brought to the notice A of the City Council that a- considerable amount of destruction of Native Birds is being committed in Cawthron Bark by the use of pea rifles and other weapons, attention is called to the Cawthron Park By-Law, which provides that

252. i\'o person shall without the permission in writing of the Council lake or carry into, on or over the said Park or have in his possession whilst using the said Park or being thereon any gun, pea rifle, firearm, catapult, shanghai or any weapon of any' description or any explosives or any trap, snare or other similar contrivance.

253. No person shall fire or discharge any gun, pea rijle, firearm, catapult, changliai or any weapon of any description or use or cause t-o be used any explosives of any kind whatsoever in, over or upon any part of the Park.-.

254. No person shall without, the permission in writing of the Council kill, trap, snare or injure any bird or animal of any kind in, over or upon the Park or any part threeof, or set, any trap, snare or similar contrivance whatsoever with the intention of killing, capturing oj injuring any bird or animal of any. kind in, over or upon the Park or any part thereof.

255. No person shall without the permission in writing of the Council, cut, break down, dig up, destroy, injure, damage or remove any ferns or other plants or •my trees or shrubs or anything growing or being in or upon any part of ibe Park.

256. Any person not having the permission of the Council being upon the l ark and in whose possession jiy bud <•)■ am mal, whether dead or alive, or any ferns or plants, trees or shrubs shall be found shall be guilty of an offence. The penalty for an offence against the By-Law is a fine of £2O, in addition to which offenders are liable to .n.vo. their weapons confiscated.
