The Health Inspector (Mr. Coltnvan) presented the following fc ' factious Diseases. Nelson City . There W been only one ewe .of diphtheiia notified in the city during the . , month; this evidently originated in tho 1 country. In addition to this there has been one case of encephalitis, on «jc.rebro spinal meningitis, both oi whidi fare progressing satisfactorily, and oil© fatal case of pneumonia Waimea’- ’County: Cases of diphtheua ihav’e been reported from Spring Grove and Redwood’s VaUey, which evidently was due to a carrier. This patient is isolated and the necessary steps taken against the further spread of infection---Murchison County: One case of scarhyt’'fever and three cases of diphtheria hafe been reported, and it w. evident that a mild epidemic of eor© throats las' been prevalent in Murchison during the past two months; but this sickness has now cleared arid further trouble is not expected. There has also been one fatal case of pneumonia reported from this district.--Motueka Borough; The only case of infectious diseases reported from the district are two mild cases of scarlet fever. These have been treated in their own homcs 1 and have now almost recovered. Under the Sale of Food and Drug® Act, 1908, proceedings were taken against the vendors of butter. One of the cases was dismissed, and additional information is to be laid, and in the other case the Magistrate reserved ins decision. A quantity of tea was seized and destroyed.—General.-—the samples df water obtained in the Murchison County, on examination, were fbund tobe unfit for drinking purposes, arid steps are being taken to procure supplies from other sources. The fiftynplft •also obtained from th-a Brooklyn school was found to be unfit for drinking, apd has been condemned. Septic tanks' are being installed at Rockville,Bainham. Stoke, and Wakefield.
