AN ADVENTUROUS VOYAGE
IN NORTH ATLANTIC

j AUCKLAND, This Day. j While crossing the North Atlantic ! from Liverpool to Newport News, the 1 Waiotapu, which arrived at Auck- , land yesterday morning, lost the whole of her deck cargo, composed of phosphorus, sulphuric acid, and other chemicals. Shortly after leaving Liverpool heavy seas were encountered and J a portion of the deck cargo was wash- ■ ed overboard. In another gale the phosphorus ignited,' probably through the concussion caused by the sens, and set fire to . the remainder of the cargo, which had to be jettisoned. No damage was done beyond this, and Newport News was reached without further mishap.
