ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONERS.

I The annual meeting of parishionlers of Ail Saints’ Church was held {in the Sunday School room last I evening, and the vicar (Rev, PringI Rowe) presided. In a few intrpduc- ( tory remarks, the vicar said he hope that in any matter that came forward those present would fully and freely express their opinions. The churchwardens’ annual report ‘was read by Mr G. A. Harkness, and the balance-sheet of the church and of the various organisations connected therewith were read by Mr J. E. Wright. The vicar, referring to the reports, thought it a matter of distinct encouragement that all accounts showed a credit balance, and reflected great credit on the workers of the church. On the motion of Mr W.Andrew, the report and balance-sheet was taken as read.

Mr Harkness, referring to the report, emphasised the point of the benefit derived from the envelope system, which was inaugurated last year. He hoped others of the congregation would follow the lead already taken. Officers were elected as follows: —Vicars churchwarden, Mr G. A. Harkness (x'e-elected); people's churchwarden, Mr J. E. Wright (reelected') ; .vestrymen: Messrs E. E. Boyes,' S.' F. Bolton, J. Williams, Harold York, E. Ramsden, W. A, Andrews (re-elected), F. Cooke, J. Mercer, IST. Austin, and M. White. Formerly the number of vestrymen was six, but it was resolved to increase the number to ten.

I Totes of thanks to all church workers enumerated in the annual report were passed with applause.^ | In a short address, the vicar said the whole future of the parish depended upon the co-operation between the minister and the people. The biggest advertisement for any church was first of all the advertisement of the lives of the members, and then the advertisement of the views of the members. Referring to the work of the parish, he asked for the prayers of the congregation, and said many helpers would be required. Both he and Mrs Rowe wished to come in personal touch with every member of the churcl|, but he craved their patience for a little time, as it was impossible to visit more than a few every day. Both he and his wife had been much touched by the atmosphere of kindness they had been encircled with since coming to Nelson, and he asked for the loyal support of the congregation in every matter affecting the welfare of the church. In this connection he mentioned that a class for Bible study would commence on Saturday evening, when he trusted to see a large attendance. The meeting then closed with nrayer.
