PROVINCIAL APPLE SHOW
PROGEE SS~*OF ARRANGEMENTS
A meeting of the Apple Show Committee was held at the Nelson Institute last evening. There was a very large attendance, Mr A. Gilbert presiding. Mr F. G. Gibbs wrote thanking the Committee for the invitation extended to the Boys’ Central School, and stated that he would ’be most pleased to allow the pupils to attend the Show under the care of teachers. . The invitation to attend the Show extends to the State schools, Colleges, and St. Mary’s school, times to bo arranged.
The Prime Minister wrote thanking the Committee for the invitation to visit Nelson to open the show. He stated, however, that it was not possible for him to come as most likely he would be with the Prince of Wales. He would ascertain if the Minister of Agriculture could come, or failing him, some other Minister,
No reply has yet been received from the Farmers’ Union, which was asked to bold its annual conference in town during the Show.
| It was reported that inquiries ■ were being made from - outside districts in regard to the Show, and it is hoped that other proi vinees will be well represented. I Matters with ’regard to ball, judging, lighting, decoration etc. were dealt with. : Applications for space for trade , displays were received. ! It is intended to endeavour to secure displays of Nelson tobacco, marble etc. ; APPLE* SALE. { I It was resolved to hold a sal© 'of apples at the Show, to be | run on lines similar to the successful “Apple Day’” held in the city on one occasion. The following committee was set up to take charge of tins portion of the proceedings:--Messrs W. Griffin( convey) JStewart, W. A. Dee, A. E. Tacker. . 1 Growers are invited to send m one or mure cases for the sale, !o be regal tied as a dona non -o the fun's.
All offer of ten cases was made by one grower present, a*A it is anticipated that _ growers generally will appreciate tlim method of helping the Committee financk/.'.y-
