After waiting some days at Pilharighza while stores . were being accumulated, the Deraj at column resumed its march, penetrating the heart of the Mahsud country, and encamped at Maobi, the most interesting Mahsud stronghold yet entered. It was famous us the burial place of the notorious Mullah Powindah, whose remains were removed before our entry. A great: girjah was held yesterday. It was attended by representatives of practically all the tribes. There was a considerable party favouring peace but the irreconcilables prevailed, and the situation is unaltered. (
(By Elec’t£c Telegraph—Copyright). (Reuter’s Telegrams.) (Rec. Feb. 19, 10.5 a.m.) DELHI, Feb. 17. In connection with the Mahsud campaign an accident occurred oh the 13th. A tower in Cotkai collapsed, killing 14 Indian rankers and injuring seven. The Mali suds held a jirgah at Karnigan on the 14th. All sections are reported to be in favour of peace. A letter has been sent asking for the suspension of bombing and stating that rifles ofnd tribal security for the maintenance of peace will be brought into the lines within a few days. Captured rifles will be surrendered with-, in three months.
