Captain S. V. Trask, of the Headquarters Staff, Palmerston North, is at present on a- visit to Nelson.
Private T. Prussing, son of Mr W. Prussing, of Grove-street, who was wounded recentlv in France, is in St. George's Hospital, London, progressing favourably.
Mr C. R. Harley, of re ceived a cablegram on Saturday evening, stating that his son Lieutenant Auty Harley, was wounded in action on Sep tember 16th. Lieutenant Harley, who i=? his promotion to a- lieutenancy. Mr J. S. Evans, S.M., will leave for Wellington to-day. It is understood that Mr Evans has been appointed Chairman of the lUanterhury Military Appeal Board, in connection with the -Military Service Act. andi that Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., of Westport, will act as S.M. at Nelson during Mr Evans's absence. A wedding of considerable interest was solemnised at St. Thomas'? Church, | Motueka", on Wednesday by the vicar, the Rev. J. Vosper. when (says the Star) ■ Engineer-Sergeant Benjamin Mansfield (a returned Anzac) was united in the holv bonds of matrimony to Muriel (Eileen Rankin, daughter of Mr and Mrs | John A. Rankin, of Motueka. The happy couple's future home will be in the North Island. Captain Lancelot Shadwell Jennings, of the Otago Battalion, reported in a casualty list issued. on Saturday to have been killed in France, was one of the most Ibrilliant students Nelson College has had on its rolls. He was a son-of the Rev. Mr Jennings, now of Motueka. Captain Jennings, -whose wife resides at Timaru, was at Nelson College from 1901 to 1906, and in his last year was head of the. school. He distinguished himself while at College both as a cricketer and as a footballer, and in 1906 he captained the.Nelson represenia- ' tive eleven against Taranaki and Wellington. Going on to Canterbury University College, he gained' the degrees of M.A. and B.Sc. He represented Canteri bury College in the 1908 tournament, and won the tennis championship.
