"NURSE WITH THE GOLDEN HAIR"

MORE "DANGERS" FOR OUR BOYS. "She (my nurse) is a gay young thing with golden hair, and a delightful English accent, and is the idol of the ward. " The Greek girls, too, both nurses and visitors, are magnificent, tliat beiiijr the only word that truly describes their stately beauty. Only to bear them speaking English, or, rather, trying to, is to lose one's heart to them irrevocably. From all this drdvel you will probably gather that T am. in even greater danger of annihilation here, in this peaceful hospital, than I was in all my 'alarums and excursions' upon the Gallipoli Peninsula ; and indeed I think you will be not far wrong, for how I shall ever tear myself away from here. I quite fail to see. We were the first batch of wounded to be sent to this hospital, and some of our little adventures were very funny. They have dropped down to our ways pretty well now, but the first day or two their attempts at feeding us would have been very amusing if we had not been so confoundedly hungry. They used to give us things cooked in oil. Ugh ! r still shudder when I think of that first mouthful—and a dish that we have since got to like, provided there is plenty o l sugar, a sort of curds and whey made with limes, which they call, "Yah-ovti. ! It is really very nice."—A Canterbury boy's description of the Greek hospital he was in at Alexandria, and its nurses.
