'Sir lan Hamilton reports that the heavy, confused fighting on the 12th lasted al'l day, the troops engaged including the French corps. They succeeded in carrying two strongly-held and stronglyfortified lines of Turkish trenches. The ground covered by the advance varied l from 2CO to 4GD yards. The second phase nf the operations was then undertaken against the right Turkish line. The first line -of trenches was easily carried, as in the case of the earlier operations-, the preliminary bombardment being very successful.' : Our troops then took the second line, and ; had consolidated, their position 400 yards in advance by nightfall. . Two counter-attacks were repulsed during the night. During the darkness, however, itwas found that the British right, had; passed too far, and the Tui'kis made successful bomb attack, recapturing a- section of trenches. This position being .vital to the safety of the ■line, a. 'fresh ta-ttack "was organised by a brigadd of the Naval Division, supported' by French artillery. They re-took the trenches. • Meanwhile the French, had pushed the extreme: right to the mouth of: the river Kerevesdere, and maintained the :position the next night- wthout difficulty, repulsing Turkish attacks. The whole objective of the attack was obtained, except for 300 yards', which are etill iri Turkish hands.' We took piMsoner 422, whereof the French took 200 in the first- .attack. FURTHER ADVANCE.
