NEW SOUTH WALES MEAT ACT. SYDNEY, Feb. 12. The Hon. j. H. Cann states that the Meat Requisition Bill will not operate immediately. The Governor's assent is necessary, afteT which a board will be appointed to carry out the provisions of the Act. . A conference of meat exporters unanimously decided to assist the Imperial Government, promising to hand over all available meat stocks. whenever desired, ensuring sufficient supplies'-for the Allied armies; and also to safeguard the supply for "the public of Great Britain both as* regards quantity and price. It is generailv 'admitted that .the position will create" difficulties, by the carrying out: of the provisions of the Act, The trade thinks that if prices are fixed on the basis of London parity there will be ho difficulty in securing outside .supplies beyond those already stored. It is anticipated that the question, of ;freightagte will create difficulty, tonnage haying been exceptionally scarce lately. The position will be easier in August. Mr Holman stated that he had been informed that the validity of the Meat Bill is to be tested. ACTION' IN VICTORIA. MELBOURNE, Feb.. 12. Upon receipt of the Imperial despatch regarding, meat supplies, the Government summoned exporters and secured promises, that full supplies would be-avail-able for the Allied armies.
TRADING WITH THE ENEMY. MELBOURNE, Feb. 12. George Lorimer, a. merchant, was fined £25, and James Raiiton, a seed merchant, £250, for attempting to trade with the enemy. The Bench announced that it would" imprison future culprits. . SYDNEY, Feb. 12. Blumenthal, limited, were, found, guilty of trading, with,the enemy by means of letters ,and orders . addressed to ' Hamburg. The fixing of a penalty .was postponed until the co.'ncbJsipn of other, cases. HELP FOR SERVIA. SYDNEY, Feb. 12. In the Assembly, Mr Hplman announced that inquiries had confirmed the existence of distress in Servia, and he proposed the opening of a relief fund with a Government donation. Mr Holman started,'the Servian ■_ relief fund with a Government contribution of £IOOO. HIGH PRICE OF COMMODITIES. ' SYDNEY,, Feb, 12. The Labour Council, complaining of the high prices of commodities, decided to send a deputation to the Government pointing out the failure Pf the Commission.
