PROGRESS OF EVENTS.
PARIS, Dec. 15. (Official.) ■. Tlie : Allies -have progressed, on the Yser Canal and west _of~ Hollebeke. "Wo repulsed several violent counterattacks.
A German offensive north-west of Cerziay was repulsed. During- the fighting at Dixmude a company of French bluejackets were -surrounded and the majority killed. The survivors surrendered '»*ith an officer.
A German officer demanded to be shown a safe passage across the Yscr, siid the "French officer led the -way to Dixmude brdge, -where the French were in strong force . The prisoners shouted to their comrades: "We have Been captured." The German officer attacked the French officer, btxt the latter shot him and the detachment escaped to the French lines, covered by their comrades' fire. The officer was decorated. (Rec. A communique states that thte British captured a small wood west of Wyteschaete.
We retained the ground won on Ypres Canal and west of Hollebeke, notwithstanding vigorous counter-attacks. We progressed in the Argonne. The enemy violently bombarded St. Leonard and South St. Die. The enemy's artillery in Alsace is veinactive. We held our ground, except at Steinbach, where the German infantry gained a footing.
