The battleship St. Louis collided with and cut in two the submarine Vendemaire, at Cherbourg. Twenty-six men were drowned. June 9. Portions of the Vendemaire"s deck rose within twelve minutes. Warships immediately anchored at the spot, but nothing further was seen of the submarine.
