FRENCH SUBMARINE SUNK* CUT IN TWO BY A BATTLESHIP. TWENTY-SIX MEN DROWNED. (Press Association.—Copyright.) PARIS, June 8. The battleship St. Louis collided with and cut in two the submarine Vendemaire, at Cherbourg. Twenty-six men were drowned. June 9. The Vendemaire was practising the attack. and rose under the St. Louis' bow. She sank in 170 feet of water. A great bubbling of the surface ensued, and the sea was covered with oil. Portions of the Vendemaire"s deck rose within twelve minutes. Warships immediately anchored at the spot, but nothing further was seen of the submarine.
