EXPLOSION OF SULPHURIC ACID.

An iron drum containing 10 cwt. of sulphuric acid exploded on the wharf Newcastle, splashing the contents over five men, who were working in the vicinity. Grainger, a labourer, received the full force of the acid on his face and body. Smith, labourer, was also frightfully burned. The others were splashed about the arms and face. The injured men screamed and writhed with excruciating pain. Smith plunged into the harbour. Wherever the acid touched the clothing it fell to pieces. The sufferers were conveyed to the hospital. Grainger and Smith are m a critical condition. but the others were not Fcriously injured.
