ADVANCE ON MELILLA. A MOORISH PROTEST. Pbess Association.— Copxbioht. MADRID, Tuesday. Sufficient ammunition and stores having been accumulated to render the Spanish araiy independent of sea communication, the advance upon Mehlla has commenced'. Forty thousand troops cheered the announcement of the start wildly. Two -columns occupied Cape del Huertte.- Warships are supporting the operations. The Spanish had one killed and 28 wounded. The Maghren is asking the Powers to intervene to safeguard the Moorish territory. It is alleged that Spain's action is a violation of the Algeciras Treaty, and that the whole trouble ij due to Spain's crossing the frontier and exploiting the mines and working railways, '^
