WELLINGTON FRUIT MARKET.
George Thomas and Co. report unde* datelstin£i*it:— *. A M This weei nas witnessed a great drop in value of nearly every description of available fruit. Altogether the market is in a very unsatisf actory' condition, and buyers are absolutely without entfeusia?rn. , Passions.— At the early part of the week cases were realising 12s to 13s, hallcases 5s to 6s 6d ; these values are now much lower, and at to-day's auction cases brought 9s to 10s, and half-cases only realised 3s 6d to 4s. I Apples.— lt is very difficult to give any reliable quotations, beeau»e there are so many inferior samples available. A great proportion of trie frtiit coming to hand is simply riddled with codlifl moth and ccv- | ered with scale, so shippers must be guided by the condition of their <rwn output. Good dessert apples realise 5s to 6s, inferior 2s to 3s per case. Best cooking sorts are worth 4s to 4s 3d, inferior 2s to 3s per oise. Quinces.— Fairly large shipments con* tinue to reach us, and results are 3s to 4s per case for fruit in good order. Pears.— Cooking descriptions such as Napoleons and Vicars are in heavy supply, and prices have suffered a considerable decline. Nelson and Motueka consignments rule about the same rates, Southern dessert descriptions are in better request : Best Marie Louise are worth 9b to 10s, second quality 6s 8d to Bs, Capimonts 6s to 7s. Bergamots are not inquired for, and are only worth 4s to 5s per case. Peaches.— This is one of the few lines that are really in demand, and a shipment which reached us to-day from Motueka sold from 6s to 7s per half^case. Cape Gooseberries,— Fair sale at 4jd to 5d per lb. . Tomatoes.— We would not be surprisedto see values considerably increase during the week, as local supplies are now much lighter. 3s to 3s 6d per half -case is to-day's quotation. Cucumbers.— Supplies are falling away. The small shipments which reach us are in excellent request at 4s to 4s 6d per small box. Walnuts.— Fair sale at 5d per lb. Eggs. — In capital request as supplies are limited. Preserved are worth Is 6d and fresh 2s 6d per dozen.
