THE COAL REDUCTIONS AT CASTLE.

ATTITUDE OF THE MEN. SYDNEY, Yesterday, A representative meeting of miners of the Newcastle district discussed the proposed reduction in the price of coal and other important questions. The speeches were temperate. They iprged a reference of the reduction to the Arbitration Court, with whose administration con- , aiderable fault was found. It was strongly contended .that the present . trade conditions did not. require a reduc-. ( tion in the -.•price of coal. Resolutions were adopted endorsing the action of the Miners' Dale-gate Board, and requesting the Premier to call Parliament together to amend the Coal Mines Act and provide for minerals, being weighed in skips, and the payment .of miners by weight. It was also. Sesoived that the meeting viewed with /surprise and indignation the action at a> section of the Colliery Proprietars' Association in attempting to enforce a. reduction. of the hewing rate in view, of tiie fact that the rate for the present year was fixed by agreement, and expressing dissatisfaction at the constitution of the Arbitration Board, urging the Government to amend the Act so as to have various Courts for the settlement of disputes in different industries.
