TO-DAY'S SITTING.

The Board resumed this morning, the same members being again present. Mr Lock forwarded an apology for his absence. Mr 11. Batt waited on the Board in support of an application from the Upper Wakefield Committee that Lhe Board request the District Health Officer to v sit their school for the purpose of reporting on the sanitary condition of the school. For the last nine years there had been an outbreak of diphtheria every year in connection with the school, and in some years there had been two outbreaks. — The Chairman said that the Chief Health Officer ( Dr Mason) had informed him that the matter tvould come within the function of the District Health Officer. - It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Best, that the Health Officer be asked to visit the school \. also, on the motion of Mr Beuke, that the Westport Health Officer* be asked to visit the • Mokihinui school for a similar purpose. A letter from the Department notified that the decision of the Board in regard to Committee election disputes, such ns that at Motupipi, must be accepted as final. It was resolved lo hold a fresh Committee election at Motupipi. The Department advised that the payment of additions to teachers' salaries for the current quarter be made on the same lines as formerly. It was resolved, on Mr Baigent's motion that the Sunnyside School (West Takaka) be closed. The Board went Committee to consider the question of future arrangements for the work of inspection 'the Inspectors and Mr Baigent retired whilst the subject was discussed. On the Board resuming, the Chairman informed Mr Ladley that the Board, with the view of considering his convenience as 'as possible, as well aa of studying tho interests of tho Board, had passed the following resolution; — "That the services of M r Ladley, in consequence of hi3 continued ill-health, be dispensed with in six irfonths from Ist August proximo. Tliat for the period of the said six months Mr Ladley be relieved of all travelling, and that he confine himself to the office work , and that the travelling allowances now granted him be for that period suspended. If at the end of six months Mr Ladley's health is sufficiently robust to renew his work as inspector he will be re-instated at his present salary and emoluments." Sr Ladley thanked the Board for its cqnsideration. I The chairman also informed Inspector Harkness that the Board, in view of the great increase of work during the past Few years, had increased his salary from .£3OO to £35Q. . Inspector Harkness thanked the Board, and said that the recent growth of work had been something considerable. It was resolved that Inspector Harkness be authorised to arrange for a tern? porary assistant in the work of inspection Vduring the ne sft few months, the salary to be at the rate of J32QO a year, with the same amount of travelling allowance as Mr Ladley. . The Board adjourned till two o'clock and is continuing its sitting this afernoon.
