SPORTS AT MAFEKING

Mafeking, in the words of a local paper, " let itself go '' on the 17th May to celabiate the anniversary of the raising of the siege that was so long kept up by the Boers. There is local interest in the sports meeting, which was one of the features of the occasion, for a New Zealand team won the tug-of-war for unit, teams : another carried off the event for wrestling ou horseback by teams of eight from each unit ; and a third was victorious in the V.C. race for a section from each unit. Colonel Vyvyan, in presenting the prizes, specially complimented the New Zealanders on their success in the competitions, and he said he and the people of Mafeking were glad to have amongst hem the representatives of the oolomal force than which none had done more hard and satisfactory work.
