RECENT DEVELOPMENTS.
PRO-BOER. UNDER DIFFICULTIES. HOW PUBLIC OPINION IS MANUFACTURED. LONDON, June 20. Three thousand persons .vore admitted by ticket to a pro-Boer meeting afc the Queen's Hall, and 800 foreigners, mat porters, aud the Batt.rsea gas-work ers were epgaged to keep out opponents. A large force of police assisted to prevent .efforts to lush the hall. Mr Labouchere presided, and he referred to Lord ttfilner as a miserable penny-a-liner. He said the British 3oldiers were lions, led by geese. Mr Merriman, ex -Colonial Treasurer at the Cape, was absent, being indisposed. Messrs Sauer, Lloyd George, Clifford Dillon, and Keir Hardie denounced the ' war. Kruger and De We fi were cheered while the Mr Chamberlain was hissed' Dissenters were instantly eieoted The crowd outside, * sfcimated at ten thousand, tried to gain admission. They sang patriotic songs, until the ram dispersed them. Some oollision with pro- Boers occurred later, they being hustled and bonneted.
