Dunedin, June 12, At the Supreme Court, to-day the Chinaman Tony Hay was found guilty of assaulting a child under the age of consent, but he was recommended to olemenoy on tbe ground of the cbaraoter of the girl, and a possible ignorance of the law. A sentence* of two years with hard labour was passed. For setting fire to three staoksof oats, Matthew Findlay Patterson was sentenoed to five years. If the man is weak-minded, the olemency of the Crown may be invoked,
