MR HUFFAM'S NEW PREMISES.
Music and the fine arts go well together, ami both may be found under one roof in Ti'iifalgar street, Nelson, at Mr T B Huft'am's new premises, adjoiuing those of Mr W Tyree and forming a handsome addition to the architecture of our principal street. The new premises were designed by Mr Tyree himself and the building of them was entrusted to an employee -Mr A Gray. We have said that under this one roof both music and the fine aits are to be met with. This is quite correct for whilst the ground floor is entirely taken up by Mr Huftam, who will combine the selling of musical instruments, books, stationery, and pictures, two artists have their studios upstairs, namely Mr H. W. Kirkwood, occupying a fine well lighted front room (20ft x 36ft), and Mr J. E. Moult ray occupying a smaller back room which is also well lighted. These gentlemen receivo pupils at their respective studios, and were artistically engaged when our representative called. The room occupied by Mr Kirkwood is lighted by a splendid sheet of plate glass (Bfb square) facing Trafalgar-street, and when not otherwise engaged may be used for vatious purposes, such as meetings, &c. Miss Melhuish also has a cosy upstairs room in this new building where she receives her pupils. Coining downstairs again, we may say that Mr Huftam is well and most conveniently housed. His front shop is 2(ift by 3'Ji'r, lighted by two plate glass windows, each 9ft by 7ft and two others each Oft by 4tt. The shop is fitted with shelves already fully stocked with new music, and here we learned that Mr Huftam has in this department of his business no less than 3260 of the popular shilling albums, includingthe Wieken's Grosvenor.Cavenish, Victoria, and Federal series. Violin, pianos, and other instrumental tutors are also included in his new stock. In a show room adjoining the front shop Mr Huftam has a lob of musical instruments, including Perziua pianos, with which he has lately been doing a good business, harmoniums, violins, accordions, banjos, Ac, &c Other importations in this line are expected to arrive shortly. The same room will serve as a sore of art gallery, as it is Mr Huflam's intention to combine with his other business the selling of pictmes. Finally we might add that with new premises, new stock, and new intentions Mr Huffkm is well set up and should be doing excellent biihiuess. His shop was lighted up on Saturday evening last, and the well slocked windows and thoroughly new appearance of 'everything attracted much attention. The painting anl letteriug was done by Mr J. I*. Cooko and the plumbing by Mr Graham.
