JUBILEE RIFLE MEETING.
A meeting was held on Saturday evening at the Volunteer Committee room to consider the advisableness of holding a rifle meeting during Jubilee Week. About fifteen members of tbe various Volunteer corp3 were present and also one or two civilians. Lieutenant Topliss, who was voted to the chair, explained why the meeting had been called, and stated that the trustees of the old Nelson Rifle Association had from £12 to £15 placed to the credit of tho Association in the bank, and that they were quite willing to devote the same either to resuscitating the old Rifle Association or to promota a rifle meeting during Jubilee Week. Io answer to a question put by Captain Maginnifcy, the Chairman said that the old Association had no outstanding liabilities. Lieut Wimsett moved that a Rifle Association meeting be held in Jubilee week, and that the Tr us bees of the old Rifle Association, be requesbed to hand over the i money now lying to the Association's credit. ! Sergt Bwart seconded the motion, which aftar some discussion was carried A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Secretary of the old Rifle Association, Mr B. Clouston, for the great spirit and energy which he had displayed in helping on rifle shooting in Nelson. The following office-bearers were then elected to carry out the wishes of the meeting: — President, Lieut-Colonel Pitt; Vice* Presidents Major Pranklyn, Capt Maginnity and His Worship the Mayor; Hon Treasurer, Sergt Ewart; Hon Secretary, Sergt M&digan ; Committee '. Capt Littlejohn (College), Lieut Topliss (H Battery), Lieut Gray (City Rifles), Seaman R Hunter (Navals), Sergt Fowler (Waimea Rifles), Corporal Giblin (Stoke Rifles), and Mr Symons (civilian). The Secretary was instructed t? write to the Finance Committee of the Jubilee Committee, and to each of the Volunteer corps in the District asking for contributions to their funds.
