NELSON TRADE AND LABOUR UNION.
The adjourned meeting of the Nelson Trades and Labour Union was held in Sigley's Hall last evening, when thore were a fair number present. Mr R. Burns, who was in the chair, said the meeting was called for the election of officers and the completion of the "log. ' Mr Gibson said the oflioers should be elected flist, and the Committee should take the "log" aud consider i>s construction carefully, and thoa submit it to a general meeting. Mr Garrett asked if he could put some questions, as he wished to kno? some matters before he joinel. He titkeJ, would he be allowed to work for a lower rate of wage than anyone else ? He was now elderly, and he would like to know if a young man would receive tho same wages as himself. Suppose the rate of wages was 83 a day for able bodied men, he would like to know if he would get 8s a day, as he did not oonsidcr himse'f an able bodied man. Mr Gibson said provision oould be made in the framing of the log for such men as Mr Garrett. Mr Garrett then enrolled himself as a member. The Chairman said they should now go on with the election of officers. 1 Mr Barltrop proposed the Rev. F. W, Isitt as President of the Association, Some disoussion arose as to whether a President could be eleoted who did not belong to the Association, but it was explained that th 9 Rev. Mr Lull", did belong to ouo in th-a South Island, and Mr Gaynor said he would nominate that gent'eman as a member of the Association, and his name wa.s paced on the roll. The chairman then put the resolution whioh was oarried lujanimonsly. M/ Braddoek was eleoted Treasurer, and Mr Alfred Barltrop Seoretary. Mr Gibson proposed that before a new Committee be eleoted a hearty vole of thanks be given to the late Committee, and £1 be voted out of tha funds to the late Seoretary, Mr Besley, for his past Rervioes. This resolution was sscondcd by Mr Large, and carried unanimously. The following were e'.ec.ed on the Committee :— Messrs Gibson, Gaynor. Murphy, Cave, Moore, and Bray, and Messrs Coventry and Hooper were appointed Auditors.
