WILLIAM OLIVER. Datad the 15th day of May, 1890. 1052-3 PUBLIC NOTICE HAVING for a considerable time patiently born the scandal illegally spread about me by my sister Esther (Mra Lipscombe), I hereby wish to contradict the statements she has made re myself and my sister Mary Jane (Mrs Lake, deceased"). I am quite able and willing to live down such statements, as far as I myself am concerned, but Beeing that the said scandal is proving injurious to God's work (in which I am whole-heartedly engaged), I desire to put a stop to it, informing the public of Nelson and districts that I am innocent of the said charge laid against me, and cautioning the aforesaid Esther Lipscombe and those engaged in spreading the scandal, notifying j them that if it is not ceased legal proceedings shall be taken. She (Mrs Lipscombe) has stated that I stole from her residence the body of my sister Mary Jane, hence the title " Body Snatcher." That while she and I were looking at the dead body in the coffin she was called out into the kitchen of her dwelling-house on important business, and that during her absence the dead body and I disappeared. There are other numerous statements that she has made to different people re the taking of the body which, if necessary, can be publicly explained and contradicted. First, 1 wish to state that I rented two of my sister's (Mrs Lijxscombe'sJ rooms for the purpoße of comfortably nursing Mrs Lake deceased, She (Mis Lake) was under my care during her illness, and expressed her desire, and was anxiously wailing, to be removed from the aforesaid rented rooms as soon as my house was finished. She also wished (if she died) that her remains should be carried to the grave from the same house as her late husband's (now Mrs Fleming's). I intended to have the body removed by the undertakers ; but, as I was not present when they aame with the coffin, it was not done. I informed Mrs Lipsoomba the following morning that I would remove the body, eto. that day. I therefore did so ; taking it axuay from the said rented rooms, assisted by two other relatives in the presence of my sister Mrs Lipscombe, The funeral, which was in my oare (and according to deoeased's desire), left the residence of the said sister's (Mrs Fleming's). Leaving it to the common understanding of all that I did that which was desired of me by my affectionate deceased eieter, aad that I have neither committed' theft, or done any underhanded work whatever. lam &o. ( Sophia Durbani, Salvation Army, Nelson, F.S, — It may be stated that the reason of the strife principally arises through jealousy re deceased's will. — S.D.
