LOWE R MOU TERE ROAD BOARD.
Tbe monthly meeting of this Board wa 8 held on July 20, all the members present except Mr Boyoe. The minutes of the las 4 meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk read his monthly statement re the finanoea of the Board, showing an overdraft of £39 3s lid. In answer to questions, the Clerk stated j that the Chairman had signed certificates of j work paid for on county roads (whioh the j CouDcil had not yet refunded) to the amount j of £56 0s 7d ; that there are warrants to be signed for the payment of £9 17s 6d for raking in rats on the newly gravelled County road ; also that there is a balance of £7 12s 6d due from the Colonial Treasury for Bub • sidy on rates after deducting £5s 6s 8d charged by tbe Audit Department for auditing the Board's accounts for year ended March 31st 1888, and £2 0s lOd subsidy overpaid last year. Had these amounts been paid, there would be a credit balance of £23 9s 2d, instead of the overdraft mentioned. Resolved, that £2 10s be paid Mr James Drninmond for preparing poisoned grain for the abatement of the email bird nuisanoe, the County Council having made a grant of £1 for this purpose. Besolved, that the Clerk write to the County Council, pointing out tbe necessity of keeping the rats raked in upon the County road, and the advisability of filling the worst holes on road through Hyland's bush, and clearing road ditohas. Resolved, that the Clerk give the ranger notioe that his services will be no longer roquired. Resolved, that the Clerk advertise the Board's intention to make a general rate at the next meeting, of one half-penny in the £. Warrants were signed for the payment of £9 17s 6d for work done on County road aocount, and £11 17s 3d- on distriot road account, the sum of £5 6b 8d for auditing being included in the latter amount. The Clerk was instructed to pay any of the accounts until be receives notice from the County Council of the amount due from that body being paid to to the Board's credit.
