London, Ootober 9, The bloodhounds employed by the police to discover the perpetrators of the recent murders in Whiteoh&pel and elsewhere hare been tested, and proVed their training- -was unsuccessful. Mr W. H. Smith, in the poarse of his speech at Gloucester said the Imperial Government had never intended to cede Bechuanaland to the Cape. It is reported that Sir William Robinson, Governor of South Australia will be appointed in place of Sir Anthony Musgrave, Berlin, October 9. Four frigates of the German Navy have been ordered to proceed to Zanzibar to protect German subjects there, New York, October 9. The expedition which left Labrador some time back, under the command, of Lieut. Wiggins, in order to ascertain whether the Arctic Ocean was navigable so as to opon a route from Labrador to the mouth of the Yenisei river, Siberia, has returned. Lieut, Wiggins reports that under the most favorable circumstances ib would be impossible to reach the northern portion of Asia. Calcutta, October 9. Information has been received here that the Black Mountain expedition has occupied Chittabut, after a severe engagement, during which the enemy suffered a serious loss.
