Last night a nine roomed house in England street at Ponsonby, owned and occupied by Mrs Potts, a widow, was destroyed by fire, which originated in the kitohen. The house was insured for £200, and the furniture for £100, both in fche South British. The young woman, Mary O'Connell, admits being the mother of the child whose dead body was found on Monday. The child was born on Saturday night, and the mother performed her duties as usual on Sunday, and went twice to church. A fire in Wellington street this morning destroyed the shop occupied Ly MoNamara, grocer and two cottnges occupied by John Marlet and William Roberlsou, all belonging to James Lyell. Tbe fire originated in the shop. The insurances on the buildings are £325 in tho South British and on the s ock aud furuituro £300 iu the Royal. Chiustchurch, September 28. Applicatioa was made at the laab sitting to make the assets in the private estate of Siegerb available for distribution among the firm's credi' ors. The two had been partners, but some months ago they dissolved, and subsequently, after carrying on business separately, filed separatsly. At tbe dissolution the book debts of the firm were assigned to Siegert and tbey were not an asset in his individual estate. The application was refused.
