THE PETREL ENQUIRY.
Auckland. The whale ship Petrel enquiry terminated yesterday at Russell, when Captain Reid, the mate, and second mate, made statements generally denying ihe charges of enmity and accelerating the death of two men. The ; police have rak v poss ssion of the ship, and two cons' ablos were on board all night, and ■ neither of the accused were allowed to go on lioird. This morning tho third officer : consented to take chargn of the ship. Later. " ! Captain Reid, and Menozi, tho second mato of the Petrel, have been arrested at Kussoll charged wii.li murdering Bretton, a > cooper, on the high seas. Tlio prisoners will '< be brought to Auckland. Poley. Ihe first > mate, is also charged, but has lefo Russell.
