JOHN BROWN.

Another well known old settler joined the majori y this morning. Mr John Brown, who for many years resided in Russell-street and whose face and figure were well known to all the residents afc the Port, arrived in Nelson in 1845 and at once took up bis trade as a stonemason Bt which he prospered for many years. Some time ago he waa struck down by paralysis, which not only crippled the body but to some .degree affected the mind, and he has ever since been a confirmed invalid. "With his good humored countenance and broad Scotch dialect he was quite a character in bis way, and to many ib was a real pleasure to have an occasional half hour's conversation with the genial old gentleman. He leaves a widow and numerous family.
